Getting an API key

Get a test key to start building, a live key when you are ready, and keep both safe.

To use the Lanoo API, you need an API key. This guide shows you how to get one, and how to keep it safe.

The API is still being built, so the console is not open yet. Until it is, get early access and we will set you up.

Create an account

Sign up in the Lanoo console. You get a test key straight away, so you can start building the same day.

Test keys and live keys

There are two kinds of key.

A test key lets you try everything without reserving a real spot, because it only works on test staging areas. It looks like lk_test_4f9c2a7e1b8d3f6a0c5e9b2d.

Test staging areas are made up. No vehicles stand in them, and nobody else can book them: they are your account's alone. Otherwise they work just as real ones do, so what works there works for real.

A live key reserves real spots for real vehicles. It looks like lk_live_8b3e6d1a9f2c7e4b0d5a1c6f.

The start tells you which kind it is. The rest is random, and different for every key.

You use the same address for both. The key decides which one you are talking to.

Getting a live key

Before you reserve real spots, we want to know who you are. Tell us about your company in the console, and we will get back to you. Once you are approved, you can make live keys.

Keep your key safe

Treat your key like a password: anyone who has it can reserve spots in your name.

Keep it on your servers. Never put it in an app, a web page or your code.

If your key leaks

Make a new key in the console, then choose when the old one stops working:

  • Right away, if it has leaked.
  • In 24 hours, if you are just swapping it and need time to update your servers.
