Finding room

Before a vehicle can wait somewhere, you need to know where there is room. Availability answers that: which staging areas have a free spot near a point, now or when the vehicle would arrive. It shows counts only. You never see another operator's vehicles or bookings.

Search near a point

Pass near as lat,lng, and arrive_at as the time the vehicle would arrive:

distance_m is how far each staging area is from near, in metres. The search reaches 3000 metres from the point. Pass radius_m to search closer or further, from 100 to 20000.

Now or later

Leave out arrive_at to ask about now. With it, you ask about the time the vehicle would arrive, which is usually what you want: by the time it gets there, things will have changed.

Ask about one staging area

If you already know where the vehicle is going, pass staging_area in place of near:

Pass one of the two. With neither, the call fails with parameter_missing.

Free spots and the chance one is free

Each staging area comes with two numbers:

• free_spots is how many spots nobody has reserved at arrive_at, or now if you gave no time.
• chance_free is how likely it is that a spot is still free when the vehicle gets there, from 0 to 1. 0.92 means a 92% chance.

chance_free is a forecast. It holds nothing: a staging area with 0.92 can still be full by the time you reserve. Use it to choose between staging areas: a nearer one with a low chance, or one a little further with a high one.

More results

The list comes in pages of 20. Pass limit, from 1 to 100, for more or fewer at a time. When has_more is true, ask for the next page with starting_after set to the staging_area of the last item on this one.

From room to a reservation

Only a reservation holds a spot. When you know where the vehicle is going, reserve it, with the staging_area you chose and the same arrive_by:

If the spot went to someone else in between, the call fails with no_spot_available, and the error lists other staging areas nearby with room, so you can try the next one without searching again. More in Holding a spot.
